Veteran officers consider the war in Iraq.  Dr. Bob Becker, Director of the Strom Thurmond Institute on Government and Public Affairs at Clemson University, talks with Brigadier General John Johns and Col. William Hauser, both retired military fellows of the Center for Arms Control and Non Proliferation, a non partisan policy organization that researches nuclear non proliferation and other international security issues.

Housing: a child protection issue. Kerry Coffey, director of public information at the Institute on Family and Neighborhood Life (IFNL) at Clemson University talks with IFNL Associate Director Dr. Jim McDonell in a follow-up to SC ETV’s Give me Shelter series of television programs focusing on homelessness in South Carolina.

 

Mother’s Day weekend at the Darlington Raceway.   Bob Schuster talks with Darlington Raceway public information director Jake Harris about the Dodge Challenger 500 race weekend planned for May 8-10.

 

The Upcountry History Museum remembers 1968.  Museum historian Dr. Courtney Tollison describes ongoing and upcoming events at the Upcountry History Museum located in Greenville, SC, including a Spotlight on 1968 series and an oral history center encouraging World War II veterans to tell their stories.

 

Musician and poet Kurt Lamkin.  Roy Scott introduces us to poet Kurt Lamkin who will perform in the Stories for Life Festival in Charleston, SC May 22-25, a part of the 2008 Piccolo Spoleto Festival.

Closing SC borders to senior fraud. During Older Americans Month, Donna London, Director of the Jim Self Center on the Future talks with South Carolina’s Lt. Governor Andre Bauer about efforts of the Office on Aging and his task force on senior fraud to stop scammers and con artists who target the elderly. Body Mass Index studies at Mossy Oaks Elementary.   Bob Schuster visits with Terry Nash, the school nurse at Mossy Oaks Elementary in Beaufort County about a program to battle childhood obesity during the recent conference: “Eat Smart, Move More.”


A call for volunteers to fight the spread of cogongrass. Clemson University’s Department of Forestry and Natural Resources is seeking volunteers to take part in a survey of cogongrass in 26 South Carolina counties from May 15-18.  Register to help locate and report this invasive grass.
